Oh where oh where has my blog been?
Get it? It's being sung to the tune of 'Oh where oh where has my baby been?'

To be honest I am not really sure where I have been. I definitely haven't been in Mexico, Aruba, Florida the Panama Canal - like my mom  was. I wish. I wasn't at the Bruce Springsteen concert in LA. I wish. I wasn't in Tuscany taking weeks and weeks of cooking classes. I wish.

So, really I have been here (home, work, dog walking, gardening, getting the deck ready for summer, baking lots of rhubarb pies), there (dinner and lunches with friends and family, working out with my trainer aka El Diablo, working out at the gym, unable to walk after working out with El Diablo) and everywhere (I wish).

I have a bunch of new recipes - but I haven't been very smart - and haven't captured them on the camera - so good thing - I will need to make them again. This is what I have been making though:

Mini Beet Burgers - remember them here?
Mini salmon burgers with dill caper mayo
Braised leeks - hello!!! New favourite
Marinated steak
Tequila chicken wings
Rhubarb compote
Rhubarb custard pie - check them out here
Every type of smoothie you can imagine
Seafood Chowder - sweet sweet Seafood Chowder
Homemade granola

Well friends - I promise to get off my Royal Canadian and get some recipes up in this pooch.

And I would like to leave you with my new favourite quote:

everything will be okay in the end. if it's not okay. it's not the end. - unknown

Happy Sunday

Happy May 6th. What a lovely day out there.
The super moon last night was so beautiful.
Yesterday was a goodie too.
I feel that it is the start of summer - still a bit cold - but starting to spend time in the yard is always the kicker for me. I went out back for the first time in quite some time (I avoid the backyard pretty much all winter and start of spring b/c it's like a bog back there) and we had an abundance of rhubarb. I sort of couldn't believe how much there was. I thought that I butchered it a couple of years back - but apparently rhubarb is hearty and relentless.

I did this recipe a couple of years ago - it kind of cracks me up to read how I used to write back then. It was a good post though - I love the memory it brought back. Can you check it out HERE

Rhubarb Custard Pie

2 cups of sliced rhubarb*
2 eggs
2 heaping tbsp of flour
1/2 cup of cane sugar
1/8 tsp cinammon
Small can of canned milk
Frozen pie shell

*This time I added fresh strawberries as well - so did a bit more than a cup of rhubarb and then about a cup and half of sliced strawberries.

Pre-heat the oven to 425.

Add the sliced rhubarb to the pie shell. In a bowl, whisk the eggs. Add in the flour, cane sugar and cinnamon - stir all of this together. Add in the canned milk and incorporate together. It will become nice and silky. Pour over top of the rhubarb in the pie shell.

Place in the 425 oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 and bake for another 50 minutes.

Serve with ice cream or whipped yogurt or just have it on it's own.

Chris rates this one a 5++++ every time.

Alright time to get this day on - dog walk, a little shopping, Starbucks Frapps (half price this afternoon) and hopefully picking out some pots for the deck and a dinner for kings.

If Mark Wahlberg comes for dinner...

If Mark Wahlberg came for dinner, I would make so much food. I would make so much drink. I would make so much mixed dance taps so that we would dance the night away.

What? Do you think that this is weird or something? Which part? The mixed tapes? Fine - I will make a playlist for my iPod.

Oh! You probably think that Mark Wahlberg coming to dinner is unlikely. Why? Stranger things have happened. Like for graduation from high school, I wore white satin pumps. I had Bell's Palsy, inflamed eyes and shingles all in the same year. I forgot to wear my wedding ring twice in two weeks to work. See!!! How strange is all of this??

I like to make lists - so I am just preparing a list of things that I may make when if he happens to stop by. Just staying on my toes. Of course if any of you would like to stop by - I will be prepared for you as well.

Check out my first list HERE. Look. Trust me,  you'll be happy :)

Alright - that's it for now. If you see Mark Wahlberg looking hungry - please send him my way.
